National Safe Digging Week
Monday 27th September to Sunday 3rd October
National Safe Digging Week is back. Its aim is to ensure everyone is aware of the pipes and cables below the ground – and the dangers of striking them.
Whatever the digging job – whether you’re carrying out a bit of home improvement, just planting a tree or extending your home – always ‘search before you dig.’
It couldn’t be easier and it’s free!
Brits Are Still ‘Digging Blind’
According to the latest figures, over 31,500 people in the UK this year will put a spade or digger bucket into the ground with no idea what is beneath them. Yet they could be working above a high pressure gas pipeline. They simply don’t know!
Accidently hitting an electricity cable or a gas or water pipe can cause serious injury or death. Even if injury is avoided, hitting a pipe or cable can easily cut off an entire neighbourhood from a major utility. And no one wants to be without water, electricity, gas or broadband whilst things are repaired!
5 BIGGEST RISKS OF ‘DIGGING BLIND’
- Serious injury/death
- Causing environmental harm
- Triggering substantial flooding
- Cutting off power for your neighbourhood
- Leaving neighbours without broadband and the ability to WFH
Despite the risks, shockingly, 25 percent of people still think it’s OK to leave things to chance. And with 2021 set to see a 34 percent increase in home improvement projects – some 86 new projects starting every day – the risk is getting bigger.
Which is why, together with our Members, we’re running National Safe Digging Week with its message to ‘search before you dig.’
It couldn’t be easier and it’s FREE!
We’d like to thank our members for supporting the campaign
